I have learned that the people behind Gothic literature have started to censor annd pretty the monster up like in twilight. it just gets on my nerves how they stray from the original and think that it is better. Why do they do this?
I agree. The only reason I can think of is the fact that modern "Gothic" novelists no longer exist. The old Gothic literature has now been thrown in the mix with the science fiction genre which takes away from the original depth behind Gothic novels.
I think the reason why is that as the generation as it goes on, people try to make the genre "better". Whatever "better" is. So they try to throw all these wrong ideas into the mix of Gothic literature, just destroying the legacy of the genre. It's pretty sad how in just a few years, modern day writing has destroyed a 2-century-year genre
i think that as the generations change so do the books, like with "old english" words that would have seemed simplistic, or easy to those back then are viewed like hieroglyphics to the modern day american. Over the years we have dumbed things down just to appease the people of today.
I completely agree. That's what I was discussing in the 4A Wuthering Heights group. What do you think books will be like in like 30 years from now? :/ That's scary to think about...
another point i wanted to make on this subject is that maybe the world is coming to an "equality" state like we read in the passage "Harrison Bergeson" where everyone was equal.
Maybe they think it will appeal to the audience more effectively. Although some 'ugly and horrible' things attract humans, Pretty and beautiful can be seen as more attractive to us. We are not drawn to ugly things as much as pretty ones even though ugly things can certainly catch our attention.
Well thank about it the promblem with our generation is that we have to have the new and not the old. If we decided to replay Dracula the movie again no one would come to see it why you may ask/ For the reason that they would find it boring. No one wants to see a vampire biting a girl and a lovley romance story because they are nieve. If they actully knew Twilight was based of Dracula.

ReplyDeletebooks will be so simple that we (the gifted) students will be horribly bored in school, and probably be at the same level as the "regular" kids.

ReplyDeleteThis goes all the way back to the article "Why We Crave Horror Movies". I agree.
